On October 27, 2026, an open lecture was held within the framework of the third lecture topic “Coding of graphic information by means of software and hardware” (the course “Computer Sciences with the basics of geoinformatics”) for the second-year students of geographical specialties. The lecture was given by Professor of the K. Niemets Department of Human Geography and Regional Studies Sergiy KOSTRIKOV.

During the lecture, general concepts of code and coding of information, basic forms of graphic representation and advantages of graphic representation of data compared to tabular were considered. Particular attention was paid to the clarity, compactness and aesthetics of graphic representation, as well as the possibilities of visualizing dependencies, patterns and trends in data.

A separate block of the lecture was devoted to basic colors and color models, which form the basis of digital image reproduction. At the end of the lesson, the additive RGB color model was considered, which is based on the combination of red, green, and blue components of different intensities to form colors on the screen. The lecture combined theoretical provisions with visual examples aimed at developing students’ understanding of the principles of digital representation of graphic information and its practical use in modern information technologies.
